View Parking MapThe Chattahoochee National Forest makes up one-third of Lumpkin County, providing ample opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, off-roading, and ATV driving.
Tubing, canoeing, and kayaking on the Chestatee or Etowah rivers will thrill and challenge enthusiasts of all skill levels, while the many waterfalls throughout the county offer serene spots for picnics and photography.
The southern terminus of the famous Appalachian Trail, the continuously marked footpath that stretches from Georgia’s Springer Mountain to Maine (a distance of about 2,160 miles), begins just east of Dahlonega and meanders through 28 miles of our county.
Anglers will find world-class trout fishing in the many Lumpkin County creeks, including heavily-stocked Dick’s Creek, and year-round fishing in the Etowah River and Yahoola Creek.
Visit one of the local wildlife preserves to learn about and get close to animals that would otherwise be elusive. To really feel like a kid again, try finding your way out of an old-fashioned corn maze – a country pleasure like no other.
