Fishing
Dahlonega is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and one-third of the county is in the Chattahoochee National Forest, making Dahlonega a great place for trout fishing.
Lake Zwerner, also known as the Yahoola Creek Reservoir, is a scenic and serene destination just minutes from Downtown Dahlonega.
As the primary reservoir for the city, it not only provides essential water resources but also offers a peaceful retreat for residents and visitors alike.
The area features a well-maintained 3.3-mile loop trail that winds around the lake, taking approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to complete. With an elevation gain of 413 feet, the trail provides a moderate workout paired with beautiful views of the water and surrounding forested hills.
Just north of the Hwy 60 bridge, you'll find convenient access to the Lake Zwerner boat ramp and dock, along with picnic facilities, fishing access, and public restrooms. Several picnic tables are scattered by the lake, offering relaxing spots to enjoy a meal or take in the view. Whether you're walking, fishing, paddling, or simply enjoying the peaceful lakeside atmosphere, Lake Zwerner is a beloved natural escape in the heart of the North Georgia Mountains.
