Handwoven Tapestry & Ancient Stitching - Demonstration by Tommye Scanlin - Bayeux Tapestry Replica Exhibit

Tommye Scanlin will be demonstrating handwoven tapestry as well as showing the difference between the stitching method used on the ancient narrative fabric you’ll see in the Bayeux Tapestry replica on display.

This event is presented in conjunction with the 2026 Bayeux Tapestry Replica Exhibit and the North Georgia Regional Book Fair.

Tommye Scanlin is a tapestry artist, educator, and author. She is a Professor Emerita, of the University of North Georgia, Dahlonega, Georgia where she began the weaving program in 1972. She continues to teach workshops at craft schools, including John C. Campbell Folk School. Her work is included in the Georgia State Art Collection, the Southern Highland Craft Guild Permanent Collection, and the Gregg Museum of Art & Design at NC State University. Tommye is the author of The Nature of Things: Essays of a Tapestry Weaver (2020); Tapestry Design Basics and Beyond (2021) and Marking Time with Fabric and Thread (2024).
