Bears Around the Square

Discover Dahlonega’s History One Bear at a Time

Looking for a fun, free, and fascinating way to explore downtown Dahlonega? Embark on the Bears Around the Square walking tour—a self-guided adventure from DDA & Mainstreet that brings the city’s rich history to life through art and storytelling.

As you stroll the charming streets of Dahlonega’s historic square, keep an eye out for ten bronze bear statues tucked away in unexpected places. Each bear, no taller than a water bottle, represents a key figure from the city’s past, like Colonel William Price, a Civil War veteran, or Willie Lewis, the trailblazing first female graduate of the University of North Georgia. You might even spot one overlooking the square on the front of our Visitor Center!

Whether you're a history lover, a curious traveler, or just out for a fun family outing, this walking tour is the perfect way to dive into Dahlonega’s heritage while enjoying its unique shops, delicious dining, and small-town charm.
