The town and surrounding area is rich in history and provides the visitor with a relaxing atmosphere in which to browse the local shops, sample the cooking, enjoy a variety of Bed and Breakfast accommodations, experience the festivals held throughout the year and return to an era when gold was discovered by the early settlers.

Historical Markers
MarkerHistorical Markers provide a fairly accurate account of some of the history of Lumpkin County. Many of the historical markers placed throughout the County by the WPA and The Georgia Historical Commission have been removed for construction projects and for other reasons. Historic Hawkins Street
Historic Hawkins

The Hawkins Street Neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hawkins Street is located 2 blocks northwest of the Public Square of Dahlonega and is the northernmost cross street of the original village laid out in 1833 within the bounds of land lot 950-12-1.
