Bear on the Square Mountain Festival

Bear on the Square logoThe 13th annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival , an incredible weekend of music and art held each spring in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. will be April 17-19, 2009.

Old time and blue grass music will fill the Historic Public Square in Dahlonega, GA. Jamming goes on day and night around the square while other local, regional, and national musicians take the stage all day Saturday and Sunday.

A juried artist's marketplace features traditional mountain art and crafts. Extensive music workshops, a Sunday morning Gospel Jam, a street dance, a live auction, children's activities, a heritage center demonstrating mountain traditions, and of course, food, complete the offerings, making Bear on the Square the perfect outing for the whole family.

US Army Mountain Ranger Open House

Ranger BannerYou are invited to come watch as some of the Army's finest soldiers demonstrate the  skills and professionalism of the American Ranger. Equipment used by the US Army Rangers in carrying out their mission will also be on display, including helicopters, night vision devices,  weapons, and parachutes. Visitors are able to see examples of the mountain phase of Ranger training and numerous displays. A demonstration of patrol insertion utilizing UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters is a favorite with the crowd, especially the younger visitors.

The Mountain Flower Fine Art Festival

Mountain Flower Art FestivalThe Mountain Flower Fine Art Festival, May 15 & 16, 2010, features juried original fine art and fine craft of regional artists and also celebrates the local and area mountain wildflowers. The Dahlonega Master Gardeners will be holding their annual plant sale, along with a wildflower display and Garden Expo with workshops.

There are a number of fine artists and crafters displaying their original handcrafted art, ranging from watercolors, painters, and potters to silversmiths, photographers and weavers. There will also be various performing artists playing during the weekend on the square.

Georgia Wine Country Festival

Wine FestivalThe 8th Annual Georgia Wine Country Festival, presented June 6th & 7th, 2009 at Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery in Dahlonega, Georgia. Attendees will sample Georgia wines from various participating wineries and enjoy unique musical entertainment by bluegrass, folk, Americana, and rock & roll musicians from the region.

Celebrating 8 years in 2009, this is Dahlonega-Lumpkin County's ORIGINAL Wine Celebration. Gold City Corral of Dahlonega will present vineyard wagon rides. Dahlonega's Fudge Factory returns with hand dipped chocolates from the tasting room.

Fool's Gold Mountain Bike Race & Festival

foolsgoldSaturday, August 15, 2009, the Fool's Gold 100 is Georgia's first and only 100 mile mountain bike race, brought to you by the race director of the largest and most fun 24 hour mountain bike race in the Southeast, the BURN 24 Hour Challenge! Fool's Gold 100 will be the 6th race of the 2009 National Ultra Endurance Mountain Bike Race Series.

Expect lots of singletrack with a few gravel road grunts. Be prepared to ride hard..and drink a few brews. With the low entry great schwag, all of the essential amenities (i.e. optional lodging with meals & beer) all weekend, and cash payout for the Open Men/Womens class in the 100 miler, we think this one will be on your race calendar for good! The guys from Sweetwater Brewing Co. will again be giving a case of Sweetwater 420 to the first racer to cross the finish line at 4:20pm...this could be a good sprint to watch.

Gold Rush Days

Panning fo goldGold Rush Days are held the third weekend in October (the 17th and 18th for 2009), when thousands come to see fall colors peaking and celebrate Dahlonega's 1828 discovery of gold. Over 300 art and craft exhibitors gather around the Public Square and Historic District in support of this annual event, and it is estimated that a crowd of over 200,000 visit over the weekend to join in the fun and excitement!

It has been voted one of the Top 20 Events in the southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society.

NOA and the Dahlonega Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce are teaming up for this year’s annual Chili Festival to be held Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Hancock Park off the Historic Dahlonega Square.  The event will begin at 11 am and will run until 2 pm.  Tickets are only $10 and are free for children under 10 years of age; includes chili tasting, cornbread, drink, and dessert.
