CEO Report
Speaking for Business
Supporting Our Community
By Gary L. Powers
Dear Chamber Members

This week the Southeast Tourism Society's
17th Annual Marketing College will be held here in Dahlonega at North Georgia Collge and University. Over 300 tourism industry professionals (students & professors) from all over the Southeast will gather on the NGCSU campus for one week of marketing techniques from all facets of the tourism industry. Their professors are working, experienced professionals from across the U.S. who bring expertise, real-world knowledge and experience to our classrooms.

The STS Marketing College was started by our local resident, Bill Hardman and his son, Bill Hardman is the current President and CEO of the Southeast Tourism Society.

The Downtown Merchants Association under the leadership of Angelia Wilson of the Dahlonega Tasting Room featuring Habersham Wine has put together a Welcome Bag for all of the 300 students & professors. These bags are the NEW, Shop-Dine-Recycle bags that are in merchants shops to give to local residents to encourage them to shop local.

So Dahlonega remember we will be in the spotlight this week and you need to put on your best customer service face and tell your employees these tourism professionals come to town to spend money.

There will be a shopping afternoon and several dine on your own evenings. Restaurants should be full and shops should stay open late to embrace these tourism professionals.

20th Anniversary of Six Gap and Three Gap

SixGapLogoGreat news, over 600 riders are now registered for the 20th Anniversary of Six Gap.

Six Gap Century and Three Gap Fifty will have a new route this year and there is a lot of excitment from local cyclists that have helped us design the route.

The Six Gap Century's ultra challenging route takes you up and down six of the steepest climbs in the North Georgia Mountains. Test your stamina with more than 10,700 feet of vertical climbing over the 100 mile course. Elevations for the six gaps in this ride range from 2,949 feet to 3,490 feet. The toughest climb, Hogpen Gap, will test even the strongest riders, averaging a 7% grade for seven miles, with sections as steep as 15%.

Our 3 major Sponsors are:

WheelworksHostel

Steven Leibel, Personal Injury Attorney

The Three Gap Fifty's alternative route offers half the gaps and half the distance, but is nevertheless a demanding and challenging course. Elevations range from 3,109 feet to 3,280 feet.

PLEASE NOTE: We have made a change in the last few miles of the route. The new route promises more great views, more challenges, and more fun!

100 miles. 10,700 vertical feet. 2,500 friends.
