The Duncan Ridge Trail (DRT)marked with blue blazes is a 32 mile national recreation trail which starts and ends with a junction of the Appalachian Trail. This provides the opportunity for a loop trail of 56 miles, 32 miles on the DRT and 24 on the AT starting and ending at the Three Forks Area. This trail also crosses the Toccoa River on the foot bridge shown above. The DRT starts about a mile north of the Three Forks area above Long Creek Falls where the BMT departs from the AT. The DRT and BMT follow the same route to Rhodes Mountain, a distance of about 21 miles from Springer Mountain. At Rhodes Mountain the DRT splits off from the BMT and goes in an easterly direction along Duncan Ridge crossing Hwy. 180 at Wolfpen Gap. The trail then climbs around the side of Slaughter Mountain reaching its northern terminus at Slaughter Gap and the AT. To complete the loop return via the AT back to the Three Forks area.
