I have worn many hats: factory worker, soldier, social
worker, admissions officer, several others, and now elections supervisor. I
enjoyed and loathed them all. I am told that is life.
I graduated high school with honors, however, college was
unaffordable. So, I joined the military because physical labor was no stranger,
no drill sergeant could compare to my father and I would learn skills while
earning a way to college – plus I could leave Lumpkin County
– perfect.
I served in several states and overseas. I soon concluded Lumpkin County wasn’t any worse, and perhaps,
was better than most places. I returned with hope of raising my daughter in a
community with everything – regard for people, nature and education. I earned
my own education at North Georgia in 2002.
My roots run deep, many generations, however, they do not
choke out my ability to reason nor do they prevent me from seeking a better
way. This county has changed and
continues to change, and like my hats, I enjoy and loath them. I want to ensure
that those changes, regardless of my feelings, are for the betterment of all,
present and future.
