Special Education Director
Lumpkin County School District
I grew up in Florida, where
I attended Florida Southern College and then Florida
State University
(B. S. degree in English Education), after which I attended Florida Atlanta
University (M.A. in
Guidance and Counseling). For 10 years I
taught high school English in Florida
but then I wanted a change. I moved to Colorado in the 1980s
where I was an elementary school counselor for 4 years and then worked as a
Gifted/Talented coordinator while I completed certification in School
Administration K-12.
My administrative
career includes 2 years as an Assistant Principal for a large school district’s
school for the gifted ( over 1600 students grades 2-12), 9 years as an
Elementary Principal, 5 years as the Principal of a Special Needs School (pre-k
through 12), and I am now the Special Education Director for Lumpkin County
School System.
My daughters live in Gainesville
and Smyrna, and
I’m officially on grandma duty at least one weekend a
month, at which time my grandson chases my Cairn terriers around and they
all seem to have a great time. I really
enjoy traveling and try to take several trips a year, am re-learning to play
the piano, and am trying to conquer my black thumb by encouraging the
landscaping in my yard to survive. I
also sing with the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville’s choir. I LOVE the mountains, the lakes, and the
birds of north Georgia.
and am so happy that I live in such a beautiful location.
Leadership Lumpkin is a great opportunity to learn about my
new home (I’ve only been here 18
months), and I’m grateful to Mr. Dewey
Moye, our school superintendent, for recommending it to me and me to it.
